Sharleen Spiteri finds it easy to write gloomy songs.
The 'All The Times I've Cried' singer, who is currently pursuing a solo career while her band Texas take a break, admits she has always struggled to pen uplifting music.
She said: "I don't really write jolly songs. I never have done. I just write. I'm not a hahaha kind of person.
"Your writing is an extension of the person you are."
Sharleen also revealed she had no concerns about drawing on her painful split from her long-term partner Ashley Heath for her debut solo album 'Melody'.
The 41-year-old Scottish star explained to thisisnottingham.co.uk: "I didn't know I was going to write about it. As far as I was concerned I was in a really good place. I guess it was something that was in me that needed to come out. It's the best pay-off for a split ever!
"I say it how it is. If I'm not happy with something I'm happy to show my emotions and my feelings."
