Charlotte Church is exploring wider areas of creativity.

The 27-year-old singer explained she had developed as an artist and was benefiting from not only the experience that comes with age but also not being shackled by "the machine" of the music industry.

She told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper's Stella magazine: "Before, I was a bit stunted.

"Partially that was because I was young and not really that interested. And the other reason was obviously the machine."

The 'Crazy Chick' hitmaker has pushed her musical ambitions and credits her relationship with producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Powell as the reason behind her wider scope.

She added: "He's unbelievably clever. He's classically strained ... Johnny loves Schoenberg and Stravinsky and all sorts of weird stuff.

"He was listening to a shed load of atonal music at the time, which was great for me. I'd wake up in the morning, go downstairs, make him breakfast, he's listening to some Messiaen."

Charlotte's focus on a more grassroots DIY style is obvious with her opinions on TV talent shows, and she recently told her Twitter followers of her apparent decision to snub 'The X Factor'.

She wrote: "I got asked to do the X factor job. I'd rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music.

"I had a meeting to ask about the level of involvement in the creative process I could have, and they basically said none....

"unless it was inline with what was required. I wanted to see just how hard line it was. I found my answer and politely declined. (sic)"
