Pete Doherty felt "energised" by the new Babyshambles album.
The 33-year-old frontman - who has had a well documented battle with substance abuse - admits his band's upcoming collection 'Sequel To The Prequel' has encouraged him to clean up his act and turn his life around for the sake of music.
He said: "I just thought, 'F**k. Where have I been? Why have I not been getting it together?' We've got to get these new songs together, we've got to play. I just feel energised by it all. Really, I do."
The band - which is also made up of Drew McConnell, Mick Whitnall and Jamie Morrison - are preparing to release their first record in six years, and they credit bass guitarist Drew for forcing the group back into the studio following a nasty accident in 2011, which saw him break his spine, five ribs, a shoulder and a knee.
Mick said: "After his accident, he really changed. He was like, 'Right, I'm going to do this!' He went over to France with a computer and a microphone to see Pete, and performed a bit of a miracle, you know? Total credit to him for doing that."
Speaking to NME magazine, Pete added: "Drew was basically sick of the band being dormant. And he tested everyone's belief. Underneath it all, we still want to f***ing play together and finish what we started."
'Sequel To The Prequel' will be released on September 2.
