In basic terms, OSKAR is an incongruous collaboration between former Collapsed Lung bassist and fine artist Jonny Dawe and former Strangelove keyboard player and soundtrack composer Nick Powell, that feels comfortable calling itself art rock, and drawing on sources such as Krautrock, systems composers Michael Nyman and Steve Reich, Sonic Youth and folk-psych. Joining them on ‘Domestic’ is former Goya Dress singer Astrid Williamson.Despite their incongruous background as individuals, OSKAR’s path to musical glories has been anything but that of the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ standard.Excursions in the fashion industry has seen them work with Miu Miu; for 3 seasons OSKAR worked in Milan, providing dramatico music for Miucha Prada’s in house label. On the big (and the small screen) OSKAR’s music has featured in China Moo Young’s short film ‘Liar’, that toured nationally, and beyond. Currently their track ‘P.S.I.’ is the music behind this country’s ‘Climate Challenge’ TV campaign, as seen on all channels! In 2004 OSKAR’s Jonny Dawe co-curated the V&A museum’s seminal sound exhibition ‘Shhh…’, programming and working alongside the likes of Cornelius, David Byrne, Gillian Wearing, Roots Manuva, and Jeremy Deller.OSKAR have previously worked with the Suspect Culture Theatre Company on ‘Live Theatre’. ‘...the music is mesmeric and the event as a whole is exactly the kind of adventurous overturning of form that we should be seeing...' The Independent. 2006 has seen Nick writing theatrical soundtracks for the Scottish and Spanish National theatres. Early 2006 saw OSKAR embracing the digital age with their critically acclaimed EP, ‘Rerun’, through Universal Digital. "Mysterious and impressive."- Manchester Entertainment Online. “A host of fantastic new tracks." -Beat Surrender Oskar, Domestic, EP
