Scarlette Fever

Scarlette Fever

‘Is this it?’ asks Scarlette Fever, on ‘Elated,’ the finest track from her debut album Medication Time.

Co-written by Scarlette with Andy Wright, produced by Julian Emery (McFly, Lissie), and with remix and additional production by Ash Howes, ‘Elated’ is a piano-driven ballad, raw in its use of the yearning couplet: “Tell everybody I’m Elated/ Armour-plated.”

It’s fair to say it’s a philosophical look at the daily grind: “A few years ago I was walking the dogs with my friend,” says Scarlette, “and we both asked: ‘Is this it?’ I love the honesty of tracks like “Imagine” and wanted to try and capture that.

“It’s basically a song about growing up; the stark reality that there isn’t always a happy ending, that dreams don’t always come true. Those of us who don’t go on the Jeremy Kyle show tend to put on a brave face; we ‘keep calm and carry on’. This is a song about what lies beneath.”

Make sure you check out the new video below, directed by Dani Jacobs (Moby, Texas, Gary Barlow), where we join a nostalgic Scarlette, alone in North London’s beautiful Cecil Sharpe House, with just her piano and reels of her childhood Super 8 footage for company.

‘Elated’ follows ‘Black & White’, and Radio 2 B-listed 'Crash & Burn', which exploded into the nation’s consciousness earlier this year, and also reached #2 on the Billboard Breakout Club Chart.

In April Scarlette completed a UK tour with Mike & The Mechanics, which included a show at the Royal Albert Hall.
