In SHADOWLANDS, ANTHONY HOPKINS (Hannibal, Nixon), who also won a BAFTA for Best Actor, plays the reserved C.S Lewis, leading a quiet life teaching with his brother at Oxford University in the early 1950's. Remaining isolated from any serious emotional attachments, Lewis spends his life inside the walls of his own mind, rarely making significant contact with anyone else. His correspondence with an American poet, Joy Gresham (DEBRA WINGER – An Officer & a Gentleman, Urban Cowboy), soon shatters his quiet world when she arrives on his doorstep in Oxford with her son Douglas in tow. When Joy enters his life, she brings a new perspective to Lewis's world, and he begins a deepening friendship with her. Their relationship is put to the test when Joy falls ill and Lewis realises that he loves her more than anything and the need to care for her brings out qualities in his character that he never knew existed.Shadowlands is a portrait of C.S. Lewis the man - it is a story of love, pain, faith, and one man's experiences uniting them. It is as though Lewis himself had taken his first few tentative steps through the magical wardrobe into a whole new world.

This incredible film won two BAFTAs for Best British Film and Best Actor, was nominated for 4 more including Best Actress, and was also nominated for Best Actress and Best Screenplay Oscars. Anthony Hopkins' performance as C.S Lewis is widely considered one of the best performances of his career. This touching love story is a must-see for anyone who loved the Narnia stories.
