With 4 million album sales and three Grammy awards to her credit, Jill Scott embarks upon a new stage in her career with the June 27th release of her fourth studio album ‘The Light of the Sun’. The album is the first to be released under a new distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records and will be preceded by the single ‘So In Love’ on May 2nd.

“I’ve always looked to empower my fans through my message of love, independence and strength,” she said. “A lot has gone on in my life since my last album, so I’m extremely excited to share the new music with all of the people that have supported me these past ten plus years. This album is very revealing, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Of ‘So In Love’, which features R&B singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton, she added: “From the first time I heard the baseline, I wanted to dance. The song reminds me of family reunions and birthdays. It feels like a 'forever' song, something I want my son to dance to at his wedding.”

‘The Light of the Sun’ features another notable guest performance courtesy of Eve who performs on ‘Shame’.
Her next major concert performance will come in July when she headlines the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans alongside Kanye West and Mary J. Bilge.

Jill Scott debuted in 2000 with the album ‘Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. 1’ which was certified double-Platinum and earned a number of Grammy nominations. Her second studio album ‘Beautifully Human: Words & Sounds, Vol. 2’ followed in 2004 and peaked at #3 on the Billboard album chart. It featured the track ‘Cross My Mind’ for which she collected her first Grammy for Best Urban / Alternative Performance. Her most recent album, 2007’s ‘The Real Thing: Words & Sounds, Vol. 3’ also hit the Billboard Top 5. She gained two further Grammy Awards for featuring on Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Daydreamin’’ and on George Benson and Al Jarreau’s ‘God Bless The Child’.

Outside of music, Scott’s numerous acting work has included a lead role in the HBO / BBC mini-series ‘The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency’ in which the late Anthony Minghella (‘The English Patient’, ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley) directed the feature-length pilot. In addition, her collection of poems entitled ‘The Moments, The Minutes, The Hours’ became a New York Times best seller, while she also founded Blues Babe, a registered foundation which supports minority students pursuing college degrees.
