Sarah Louise Owen released her album Dream Catcher in Nov. The album featured on BBC Wales and Sarah was named the stations Artist of the Week and now she is back with her new single Fireworks.
Sarah Louise (Born Sarah Louise Sarnacki Owen) was born and raised in the Welsh speaking town of Caernarfon, North Wales.
From an early age she loved writing stories and making music on her old upright piano that her Dad saved from a skip.
Sarah’s parents divorced and she used writing and music as a way to deal with her emotions and thoughts, all the way through her teenage years, where this finally turned into songwriting. But being a singer was not on her list of to-do’s until she realised she had a good voice at age 17.
Until then she’d only sang in choirs at the Eisteddfod. She was more interested in being a film director or a journalist. But as soon as she wrote her first song, she was hooked.
Welsh record label Sain signed Sarah in 2005 and released an album, Tir na Nog, followed by a digital bilingual EP Creithiau (featuring a duet with Canadian singer-songwriter Tia McGraff and a translation of McGraff’s Fisherman Song).
Keen to work on her English material, Sarah went on to make Skin Deep, an independent album, with producer Tommy Parham in Canada.
She later made a Welsh language album, Ar Goll (Lost) with producer Rich Roberts. Sarah decided to work with Rich again to make Dream Catcher, her new album, which features a song co-written with The Christians’ songwriter and solo artist Henry Priestman called These Walls. The album tells stories, from emotional piano driven love songs, acoustic tales of life, to up-tempo folksy band songs sure to have you tapping your feet.
Sarah has been a regular performer on S4C TV and her music is popular on BBC Radio Cymru in particular.
She was selected for the BBC New Talent Songwriter’s Academy a few years back, and was finalist in Can i Gymru (Song for Wales) in 2009 with her song Un Peth Dwi’n Gwybod (One Thing I Know).
As well as gigs in the UK, Sarah has played two small tours in America and gigs in Europe. She was recently successful in The Next Big Thing, North Wales’ search for original bands, and played at the North Wales Olympic Concert, Access All Eirias, which featured Welsh stars like Mike Peters and Only Boys Aloud, as well as Pixie Lott and Ollie Murs.
