First Week Sales
Last week we saw two of Hip-Hop’s most anticipated albums drop. Raekwon’s Only Built for Cuban Links 2 and the eleventh studio album from rapper Jay Z.
Both albums entered the Billboard chart in the Top Five this week, Raekwon at number five with just over 65,000 copies sold and Jay Z taking the top spot with 465,000 copies of the Blue Print 3 purchased since its release.
They were joined on the chart by four albums from The Beatles while last weeks one and two spots held by singers Miley Cyrus and Whitney Houston dropped to two and four respectively.
Kanye to take Time Out
After his disastrous outburst on Sunday night, Kanye West spoke about the incident with American chat show host Jay Leno on Monday before performing Run This Town with Jay Z and Rihanna on the show.
Kanye apologized about his stage invasion while country singer Taylor Swift attempted to receive her award for Best Female Video. When asked what his mother, the late Dr. Donda West would have thought about her sons behaviour that night the flamboyant Kanye choked up and explained that he had yet to grieve for his Mother who died in 2007 after complications to plastic surgery.
It is expected that Kanye will take some time away out of the spotlight after this recent outburst which has angered both celebrities and fans.
Rihanna’s New Album
It is expected that Rihanna’s next album which she is currently working on is to be bolder and somewhat angrier than her previous contributions.
Working with the Disturbia singer will be the likes of Pharrell Williams, Akon, Ne-Yo with expected appearances from Kanye West, Jay Z, One Republic and more.
Rihanna’s last album Good Girl Gone Bad which spawned singles such as Umbrella, Shut up and Drive, Please Don’t Stop the Music has sold over five million copies worldwide and has secured multi platinum selling status in countries such as the US, Canada and the UK.
Bench Warrant Issued for Beanie Sigel
After failing to appear at a New Jersey Court on Monday for possession of marijuana after being stopped en-route to a show back last month, a bench warrant has been issued for rapper Beanie Sigel. Sigel was stopped by state troopers along with three others with Sigel and two others being charged with drug offenses.
Sigel was sentenced to three months in prison last year due to probation violation after testing positive numerous times for Xanax, the addictive prescription drug used to combat depression and anxiety.
