Broadcaster feat Peggy Seeger - Folksploitation

Artist: Broadcaster feat Peggy Seeger

Album: Folksploitation

Label: Grape Records

Rating: 4/5

Now I have to admit when experimental dance music producer Broadcaster teamed up with folk music legend Peggy Seeger for single First Time Ever I did strike me as rather an odd collaboration.

But for anyone who has heard First Time Ever you will know that it is one of the best dance tracks of the year so far and what appears to be an odd pairing really does work.

And now Broadcaster and Peggy Seeger have united once again for new album Folksploitation and from start to finish this really is a hypnotic album.

Bad Bad Girl is the opening track on the album and it is one of the best songs on the album as it just drips with attitude.

Seeger is known for her delicate vocal but she really turns up the menace with this track - it is a great introduction to the rest of the album.

There is more of a laid back and reggae sound with Little White Grains but the techno beats that exist throughout this entire album really work perfectly with Seeger’s vocal.

Seeger released her debut album back in 1955 but with Folksploitation she has well and truly reinvented herself and helped create a unique sounding record.

Fist Time Ever is the third track on the album and it remains one of my favourite tracks of 2012 so far as it is such a great rendition of such a well known song.

This is one incredibly experimental album that, I have to say, is an absolute triumph as dance and folk come together in harmony.

The album does tackle some very contemporary issues with teen pregnancy in Annie and inner city violence in Welcome To The Neighbourhood.

If you listen to one dance album this summer make sure it is Folksploitation as it really is a fantastic listen.
