Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday

The venue was less than half full when The Xcerts took to the stage for what was a frustratingly underwhelming set.

The trio clearly have a great sound, but it's one that probably comes across better on record because it fell a little flat here.

The New Regime (solo project of former Lostprophets and Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin) was an entirely different beast.

The drummer-turned-frontman was extremely charasmatic, and he deserved much more than the slightly muted reaction he received.

Regardless, it was a fantastic way for the "band" to debut in England, with some huge tracks carried by exceptional talent from the multi-instrumentalist.

Eventually it was time for the headline act, and Taking Back Sunday were hoping for a good show after admitting that the Glasgow crowd was missing something the night before.

From opening track 'El Paso' to the final chords of 'There's No 'I' In Team', the atmosphere was simply stunning.

It felt like a mix between a club and festival show, feeling intimate and truly special despite the size of the room.

Taking back Sunday did their part too, frontman Adam Lazarra leaping around the stage, and into the crowd, for the entirity of the show.

A hit-filled set, rare live performances of tracks like 'Ghost Man On Third' made this a special evening for the fans and the band.

It reached a climax when Adam (after performing two or three songs from amongst the fans) climbed onto the soundboard to thank everyone for coming out, and lead into the last song of the main set.

The room, as expected, exploded for 'Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team)', the crowd and the band feeding off each other's energy in an awe-inspring finale.

After a dimmed response in Glasgow, it was obvious that the band (reunited in their current line-up for the first time since 2003) were enjoying this as much as the fans were.

Sometimes, gigs just feel special and are carried by an incredible atmosphere.

This was one of those nights, but Taking Back Sunday made sure their excellent performance was worthy of such a reaction.
