Agnes Obel

Agnes Obel

Following the 2010 release of Agnes Obel's debut album 'Philharmonics', an invite-only gig at St Pancras Church on September 4 of this year and an iTunes Festival performance just under two weeks later on September 17 comes second studio album 'Aventine', released via Play It Again Sam'.

It's obvious from the get-go that Obel possesses the skill to craft some incredible piano arrangements that do a great job in supporting her haunting and mesmerising vocals.

The album truly isn't like anything I've heard before - wielding the power to stop you in your tracks and truly take notice of the spooky stand-out moments from tracks including 'Aventine', 'Run Cried' and 'Pass Them By'.

There is certainly a required taste that you'll need if you wish to get something out of this record, but it's one you may not have realised you actually already have. Definitely one to give a chance.

'Aventine' is out now.
