Mark Morrison

Mark Morrison

Drenched with nostalgia, the R&B track could have been created for the 90’s era. With the reverb soaked vocals and funky beats it is different from anything else on the R&B scene at the moment.

Mark Morrison was the most successful British R&B singer of the mid-90s and was the first black male solo artist to reach number one in the era. His breakthrough single, Return of the Mack became a Top Ten hit worldwide in 1996, and opened the US market for him the following year.

Things have changed a lot since then in the music industry and the new track marks the return of the King of British R&B. Mark Morrison is also bringing a new album out too (date still pending) You can hear the maturity in his latest lead single I Am What I Am. A soulful ballad with a repetitive chorus, slightly overproduced vocals with a jazz-club feel.

I don’t know if I Am What I Am will be a classic number one hit of his but it does show the new direction that this artist is heading in. I did enjoy the track but I want to wait until I hear his new album before commenting on his new sound.
