Light reverb and soft melodies are what open up Sykes' new single 'Gold Dust', an alternative pop tune that has legs to take it all the way into the charts, emulating the success of similar group Clean Bandit.
The three-piece do however manage to stand on their own despite any comparisons that may be drawn. There's a certain charm about them which seeps through the soothing female vocals on offer.
Without wanting to sound patronising, they sound like a group you want to scoop up and put in your back pocket, bringing them out when you're feeling down so that their blend of alternative pop and fantastic instrumental can put a smile back on your face.
Sykes have produced here some real feel-good music. It's a term that gets thrown around a lot, but 'Gold Dust' is its definition.
