Heavy rockers Slipknot have pulled out of a hometown festival in Iowa, forcing organisers to scrap the event.

The one-day, two-stage Des Moines event, which the group was to headline, was scheduled for 9 September. No reason for the band's cancellation was available as we went to press.

The Slipknot festival is the second such Iowa event to be scrapped in the space of a week - the four-day Rock Gone Wild show, featuring classic rock acts like Saxon, Twisted Sister and Great White, was axed after a bust up between organisers and venue bosses.

That festival was scheduled to take place at the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood from 20 August.
