Facebook, which now has 13.5 billion users, will now encorporate LinkedIn and Google in a new service that they are providing called ‘Facebook at Work.’

The company is taking time on the new software that will let users chat with work colleagues, connect with their other contacts and come together on documents says the Financial Times.

The site will look much like Facebook with a newsfeed and will have groups, but users will be safe in the knowledge that their personal profile will be kept private.

The launch of this site will provide competition for the likes of LinkedIn and Google’s range of collaborations online.

Tech Crunch first reported the idea of ‘Facebook at Work’ at the beginning of 2014 who said that the project was being focused on by employees in London to get it up and running.

“We are making work more fun and efficient by building an at-work version of Facebook,” a source told the technology website at the time.

“We will touch code throughout the stack and on all platforms (web, iOS, Android, etc.)."

It has not yet been announced when the professional site will launch but it has been suggested that it will be free- at first.

Facebook is also currently talking to satellite operator Avanti about a new project that could potentially provide free internet access across Africa.
