Twitter has asked its most avid users to stop posting Instagram links.

Since 2012, users have been able to show Instagram photos within tweets. Since 2012, any pictures posted from the Facebook owned picture sharing site have appeared as links which can be opened either in a browser or by a user.

Those Twitter users who are high profile were prompted to post pictures directly through Twitter meaning that they show up on their followers' timelines according to Mashable. This was designed to demonstrate how to post in Twitter and boost the interactions with said posts.

Since Facebook bought Instagram, it has been catching up with Twitter and has now surpassed it in users.

Twitter doesn’t have filters, nor does it have a photo editing function unlike Instagram, however there are still limitations for its users. Despite this- both celebrities and non celebrity users still appear to have a preference for Instagram.

The likes of Justin Bieber and Seth Rogen have tweeted including Instagram links and they have had thousands of retweets.
