Blue will take to the stage in Jersey Boys

Blue will take to the stage in Jersey Boys

After its sensational West End debut last year, BBC Children in Need has launched POP Goes the Musical 2012 with the smash hits of London theatre. This unique charity project is, for the second year running, challenging a group of renowned celebrities to tread the West End boards and perform a hit song from a top theatre show in the run up to BBC Children in Need Appeal Night on Friday 16th November.

The celebrities involved in this year’s unique curtain call challenge include Geri Halliwell who will be adding her own spice to Singin’ in the Rain, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke who will be performing in Les Misérables, the ultimate boy band Blue will be taking on Jersey Boys, plus magnificent Macy Gray and chart-busters Stooshe will each separately put their own spin on a Michael Jackson classic in Thriller Live.

It will be a totally, brand new experience to get up on a West End stage in Thriller, but we can’t wait to help such an amazing cause!”

Alexandra Burke said: “I’m so excited to be part of BBC Children In Need this year. It's an amazing cause and helps so many people. I was absolutely blown away by Les Misérables when I saw the show and to join the cast of one of the West End’s most famous musicals is a real honour.”

The boys from Blue said: “We are so excited to join BBC Children in Need POP Goes the Musical. Blue will be turning Red for Children in Need when we put on the famous Jersey Boys' Red Jackets for this one off performance. It is an amazing chance and for such a great cause!”

Geri Halliwell added: "I have a thing for rain, so I am very excited to be performing in the West End musical Singin’ in the Rain and it’s all for BBC's Children in Need. Just imagine for one night I get to perform in this classic musical!!"

Don’t miss out on what is set to be a series of nights to remember; your chance to experience all the fun of a West End Show with the addition of a one-off performance from your favourite artists. There will be no room for error as the celebrities follow the world-class casts of these legendary productions. The celebrities are proven stars but can they handle the pressure of a packed theatre?

Stooshe said: “We are sooo excited to be a part of BBC Children in Need POP Goes the Musical. It will be a totally, brand new experience to get up on a West End stage in Thriller, but we can’t wait to help such an amazing cause!”

BBC Children in Need is currently supporting 2,600 projects that are working with children facing a range of disadvantages, for example poverty and deprivation; children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect or disabled young people.

Last year a host of celebs took to the West End stage to play their part in raising money for some of the UK’s most disadvantaged children. POP Goes the Musical 2011 saw fantastic performances from Peter Andre in Ghost the Musical, Sugababes in Mamma Mia!, Stacey Solomon in Wicked, Dionne Bromfield in Million Dollar Quartet and Melanie C rocking out with legendary Brian May in We Will Rock You. With the help of our celebrity friends, in 2012 BBC Children in Need is able to give out a record breaking £46million to support disadvantaged children right here in the UK.
