Celebrities are joining children's charity, NSPCC, to support their new campaign #childhoodwisdom.

Stephen Fry, Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan are just some of the celebrities celebrating the launch of the campaign to prove that every childhood is worth fighting for.

The charity's new look is a move towards an approach more focused on solutions and seeks to remind us all that childhood shapes who we become, but abuse never should.

To mark the launch of the new campaign, NSPCC have released research into the best childhood words of wisdom.

'Practice makes perfect', 'the grass is always greener on the other side' and 'good things come to those who wait' are just some of the words of wisdom given to people in childhood which they still refer back to.

Other words of wisdom remembered by British adults from their younger years were 'treat others how you'd like to be treated' (62%) and 'if at first you don't succeed try, try and try again' (54%).

However, there were also a few old wives tales on the list, with 'eat your crusts they'll make your hair curly' (26%) and 'eating carrots will help you see in the dark' (30%) sneaking in.

According to the research, parents are the biggest source of childhood wisdom (85%), with grandparents (49%) and teachers (28%) also cited as sources of sage words. And now it seems that advice is going full circle with mums and dads recounting pearls of wisdom to their own children with ' two wrongs don't make a right' and ' it's not the winning it's the taking part that counts' being the most commonly recited phases by parents today.

Peter Wanless, CEO of the NSPCC, said: "We're entering a fresh phase in the NSPCC's 130-year history - abuse robs children of a happy childhood but it doesn't have to be that way. We want to show how actions that all of us can take, help ensure children's experiences are positive and one way of doing this is to impart words of wisdom.

"We want to remind everyone that child abuse can be prevented with their help and are calling on people to spread the message by sharing words of wisdom from their own childhoods using #childhoodwisdom to show they agree with us that every childhood is worth fighting for ."
