According to a new survey, parents favour vacuuming as the first household task for their youngster’s.

www.UKflooringdirect.co.uk revealed that parents who decide to delegate household chores to their children choose hoovering as the first task they assign to their offspring. Of these parents, the majority cited safety and ease as their reason for choosing this chore.

The chores come at a price, however, as the study revealed that 73% of parents stated they paid their child over £6 per week to help with the cleaning, the average child aged 12 or under!

The study also revealed that 25% of parents do not ask their children to help around the home as the majority said they simply do the housework themselves. The parents involved said they didn’t feel it was right for children to do housework along with 13% admitting that their child or children refused to help.

When asked how old they were when they first started helping with household chores, the average age was 6 years old.

Jason Ashby of UKflooringdirect.co.uk, had the following to say:

“We conducted this research to see whether childhood chores were still the norm in the UK.  When our children get to a certain age, we like to instil a disciplined attitude to help them learn as they grow up and often this comes in the shape of household chores.  Taking care of the vacuuming seems to be as popular now as it was when I was a child.  Not many people can get this wrong, after all.”

He added: “Inflation seems to have hit parents’ pockets though - much the same as the ‘tooth fairy’ – with the children who are rewarded for their contribution being paid an average of £6.40 per week.  That’s only 91p per day! However, for a child that’s a fair few sweets!”
