Mums and Dads Are Struggling to Get Their Kids to Eat Fruit

Over half of parents struggle to get their children to eat fruit, according to new research. In fact, the findings show that for 12 per cent of mums it proves so difficult, they’ve given up.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are a great source of vitamins and minerals and ideally should be your first choice when it comes to choosing a snack or treat between meals

The survey from Fruit Bowl®, creators of a new range of fruit snacks, highlights the problems parents face when trying to get their children to eat fruit, especially when it comes to snacking.

The survey also revealed that three quarters of mums allow their children to nibble between meals, however when it comes to the snacks they give their child, mums confessed biscuits, crisps and sweets are popular choices.

Three in four mums also admitted that their child wouldn’t consider fruit as a treat.

Dr Carrie Ruxton,  award-winning dietician, health writer and nutritionist, said; “Fresh fruit and vegetables are a great source of vitamins and minerals and ideally should be your first choice when it comes to choosing a snack or treat between meals.

“However, as a nutritionist and a mum I know that getting children to eat fruit can be a struggle, sometimes it’s easier to resort to less healthy snacking options instead.

“The Fruit Bowl® range of fruity treats offers a much better option to snacks like crisps and biscuits which are generally high in sugar and fat.

“The Fruit Bowl® School Bars and Fruit Peelers in their colourful and fun packaging are particularly good; they contain 80g of fruit so count as one of your child’s five a day.”

All Fruit Bowl® fruit snacks are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. A great addition to lunchboxes they can also be added to your favourite baking recipes or sprinkled on top of breakfast cereals and desserts as a delicious treat.
