The research uncovered that families enjoy spending quality time together without any 21st century technology interferences. Families also enjoy catching up with each other whilst on a family drive, as well as singing along to music together.

The research follows as families spend a total of 12 and a half days on the road each year, fulfilling daily routine trips to school, extra curricular activities and visiting the supermarket.

Parents cover an average of 1.291 miles in a year which is the same distance as a trip to Prague and back! It's easy to see why families are grateful to travel elsewhere in their vehicles.

Parents are sure not to waste any precious family time during the trips and spend at least an hour preparing to ensure that no unexpected disasters occur. Everything from planning the routes and stops along the way, to car safety checks and setting up the Sat Nav are all checked to prevent any mishaps.

Although parents do enjoy the time spent with their children, the research shows that they dislike the questions "are we there yet?" with 26% of parents finding this annoying whilst on the road. They also think that the journey could be improved by cheaper petrol, with 32% of Mums stating this, whereas as 34% of Dads prefer less traffic to help get from A to B faster. However, 12% of parents wouldn't change a thing about regularly driving with the family.

Jon Lott, of Allianz Your Cover Insurance said: "The summer holiday gives families the opportunity to spend quality time together in the car, outside of the day-today grind, so it is great to see that these journeys are treasured by parents."

He added:"Driving to holiday destinations and going on days trips are the favourite journeys for families to take together and our research finds that one in five parents enjoy playing car games and also having honest conversations with their family during these trips."
