It appears that Brits are no longer using hotel rooms just to get a decent night’s sleep, quite the opposite in fact, as a quarter admitted to booking a hotel to get intimate with a partner.

The Hot Hotels app, launched in the UK earlier this month, carried out the poll as part of research into the hotel booking habits of people around the UK; particularly those hotel bookings of a last-second nature.

Over 2, 000 UK adults took part in the poll and answered questions about hotel stays they had experienced in the past and the reasons behind them.

When asked ‘Have you ever booked a hotel room purely to “get intimate” in it?’ 26 per cent of those polled said ‘yes’.

These respondents were then asked if the rendezvous had been planned, or if it was more spontaneous, to which just 34 per cent said they’d planned and booked in advance.

Over 60 per cent said it had been a spontaneous or ‘last minute’ affair, whilst the remaining respondents claimed they ‘couldn’t remember’.

Furthermore, when Hot.co.uk questioned the respondents further, just 17 per cent of those who had booked a hotel room purely to have sex in it said it was with someone they were in a relationship with at the time.

Thirty five per cent said it was with someone they knew, but who they weren’t necessarily in a relationship with, like a casual arrangement or friend; whilst the remaining 48 per cent said it was with someone they’d only just met.

Just over a tenth of those who had booked a hotel room purely to have sex in admitted to having booked the hotel room before knowing who they would take there, such as before a night out on the town or a party.

All respondents were asked to estimate how many times in the past they had ‘got intimate’ in a hotel room, with a partner or someone else, to which the average answer from respondents was ‘20 times’.

Conor O’Connor, co-founder of Hot.co.uk, said, “Having launched a last-minute hotel booking app, we wanted to discover more about why people often book rooms so late into the night when, let’s  face it, there’s not much time left to sleep anyway.

“It seems that our name was bang on the money, and hotels around the UK are indeed proving themselves to be ‘hot’ in more ways than one!

“Judging by the responses we got and the number of people who have booked a hotel room in order to get it on, it’s clear people have somewhat saucier reasons to book a hotel last minute; and it’s not just because they’re stranded somewhere late at night!”
