Bradley Wiggins just became the first Brit in history to win the Tour De France and with the Olympics fast approaching it always pays to know how to bag yourself a sporty gent.

Simply swotting up on your sports could give you an advantage of all the other ladies and get you a date with a handsome athlete.

CNN Sports Anchor, Amanda Davies has given us some top tips to help yourself becoming more appealing to the sporty types.

Get Your Diary Out

Know the dates for all the key sporting events. No man will be impressed if you ask him to a date on the night of the final F1 game of the season.

Amanda says, “Why not throw a party for a group of friends? Or get tickets to an event and see it live.

“Better still, if you’re single, head along to the women's volleyball and rub shoulders with the majority male crowd.

“There are loads of free things going on around London for the Olympics. Or why not ask to go along to a football or rugby match with your other half - you never know, you might enjoy it!”

Spread Your Wings

You might think that sports really isn’t for you, but with so much variety, how could it not be? Educate yourself with what’s out there and you might find something that catches your interest.

Amanda says, “The great thing with so much sport on the agenda is that there really is something for everyone.

“If you don't like sports with balls - maybe the high adrenaline roar of the Formula 1 could be for you. If you fancy the brutal - tune in to the wheelchair rugby.

“Or if artistic is more your thing - give the Olympic gymnastics and diving a go. And hey - if you really can't bring yourself to watch 4 hours of an Andy Murray slug-fest at the US Open - surely you can manage 10 seconds of the 100 metres?”

Do Your Research

If sport really isn’t your thing but you’re after that sporty guy who visits your local to watch the games, then research is the key.

Amanda says, “If you have your heart set on a sporty fella, it might be a good to do a bit of research. In the past I've had to cover teams and events that I haven't known much about - and always find the key is to discover the stories around them.

“It's not all about stats, facts and figures. In simple terms it could be just supporting Team GB, or the European team at the Ryder Cup. Or how about picking a side in that sub-10 second 100metres battle between Usain Bolt and his training partner Yohan Blake.”

The Media Is Your Friend

The media will tell you all you need to know about any sporting event. Whether it be the local or national papers, the tv, radio or social networks, there’s always a way to keep on top of what’s going on in the sporting world.

Amanda says, “The key thing is this shouldn’t be stressful. Over the next few weeks I would highly recommend lazy romantic Sunday Brunches with the papers. Starting with the back pages of course.

“Twitter is another brilliant way of finding out about the big stories and issues - all the best sports journalists are on there and post links to their columns and articles. And every day of the Olympics, CNN's live blog will keep you up to date with the big stories, fun facts and talking points.

“And if you get really keen - there are loads of different apps that you can download for your phone and iPad that give you highlight videos as well.”

Document The Date

When you’ve finally bagged your footballer, rugby player, or runner then it’s time to document your date so you can have memories to treasure forever.

Amanda says, “Share your newfound passion for sport on Zoosk, the romantic social network, Couple Profiles, where you can share your romantic journey - bring your camera, snap some cosy sports photos, and update on your smart phone.”
