Life after the war was still difficult with rationing still in place. Life has changed so much since the time when they first met. They used to write letters to each other when they were apart and only had occasional phone calls.
They got married in May 1947 and after a short time in Kidlington, moved to the house they still live in in Wolvercote, Oxford 60 years ago.
For the last 30 years, they have been country dancing every week in the village hall and still enjoy it to this day as a fun, social activity.
They have 3 children (2 daughters and a son), 7 grandchildren and 3 (soon to be 4!) great grandchildren and they regard family as a great source of happiness.
Doris says the secret to a long-lasting relationship is ‘tolerance’. She says “there are ups and downs and we get through them and sail along”
They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary and as the family they started continues to grow, they are a perfect example to all of their offspring on how to have a long-lasting relationship full of love, mutual respect and companionship.

Elliot & Kirsty
7 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, it was terrifying at the age of 15 to be given this news, though it was a shock I was relieved to know what was wrong with me, for two years prior to my diagnosis I had been suffering from severe headaches and feeling very sick, the doctors never picked this up and put it down to age, stress, migraines etc, I was taken to Southampton hospital to wait for an operation for the tumour to be removed, my parents were so upset but I was determined to be brave and pull through.
I was lying in the hospital bed and noticed my phone had one new message, I opened it and it said Elliot Mobile, this was a guy that I was not too sure about at first as he was a bit of a jack the lad.

The first time we met I was out my friends in the local area he was also with a gang of boys who were loud and full of themselves, I heard a few whistles and this one guy (Elliot) shouted over to me 'Oi Blondie can I have your number', I replied 'no thanks' and me and my friends walked away laughing, he then persisted and I eventually gave in and gave him my number, after that I had only received a few text messages from him and then we lost touch for a couple of months, that day in hospital when he text me he said hope your having a great summer and asked me what I was up to, I text him back telling him I was in hospital with a brain tumour, he didn’t believe me at firs!
After a week he text me all the time telling me to keep strong and be brave I kept saying to him I can’t wait to meet you when I’m better.
I was out of hospital and slowly starting to recover we were still texting and calling each other , it was October time and he eventually asked me to come out with him and his mates, nowhere exciting though just hanging around outside a shop, Elliot then walked me home while the rest of his mates when a different direction we started chatting about things and I realised I liked him more than a friend I then asked him if he wanted to go out with me, he said yes and that he was going to ask me the same thing.
We have been together ever since with only one silly break in the second year of us going out.
This was only for a couple of days as he lied to me about going out into town, I was really angry so gave him the silent treatment until I decided I missed him too much, we believe what makes our relationship special is we understand each other and trust each other in what we do.
We are travelling around the world together October this year!
Valentine's Day is out on DVD and Blu Ray now.
