Fifty Shades of Grey has become a huge success and is the latest phenomenon when it comes to erotic literature, but a new survey shows that it has also encouraged women to go looking outside of their marriage for more exciting sex.
The extra marital affairs dating site, AshleyMadison.com, has seen a 50 per cent rise in the number of women signing up to the site daily since the release of Fifty Shades Of Grey.
The best-selling book tells the tale of Anastasia Steele and her sub-dom relationship with Christian Grey, which includes bondage and punishment.
AshleyMadison.com found that a further 68 per cent of their members wanted the mimic the relationship in the book and explore a submissive/dominating sexual experience.
The book is selling most successfully as an e-book for the Kindle, and Amazon have said that it’s selling two e-books for every paperback.
Ashley Madison CEO Noel Biderman says, “It’s no coincidence that just as the majority of the book’s sales are via e-readers so people can enjoy erotica discreetly, those same people have joined our discreet website to find someone with whom they can experience the fantasies they’ve read about and now aspire to.”
The books success seems to have sparked a willingness among women to have a discreet sexual affair and so Ashley Madison polled 2,700 of its new members and found that 72 per cent of them have read or are reading the book.
Despite so many women now wishing to explore a sub-dom sex, 62 per cent of women said that their husband would be shocked if they asked them to explore it with them, and this is believed to be the reason for the increase in members at AshleyMadison.com
Noel says, “My guess is that in addition to wanting more exciting sex, the book has made women realize that there is a real thrill to being served by an established man who knows exactly how to pleasure a woman. Something that is thought to be taboo is obviously a very potent attraction.
“As far as we’re concerned, the sooner British author E.L. James writes another book the better.”
