Over a quarter of men are embracing their laptop rather than their partner in the morning as they log online in the bedroom.

According to research women can kiss goodbye to breakfast in bed as 28 per cent of men search the net for information before they even get out from underneath the covers in the morning.

Whether it’s choosing what gadget to buy, what to cook for dinner or searching for advice, men are using the net to help them make many of these decisions.

Even when it comes to shopping, men appear to have dumped their girlfriends for their laptops with 89 per cent researching on the web before deciding on a purchase.

However, women aren’t being completely side lined by the keyboard it’s still a case of Mum knows best with 27% of men relying on them to pick out Birthday or Christmas presents on their behalf.

And when it comes to a special occasion, almost four out of five blokes let their better half choose an outfit rather than trust their own or their technology’s judgement. Luckily, only one per cent follows their grandmother’s fashion advice.

Alex Payne, Bing’s Consumer and Online UK Search Lead said: "While it’s true that 84 per cent of men appreciate a female opinion, we’ve realised that search engines like Bing.com can be just as effective in helping us make decisions.

"That’s not to say we don’t care what women think - it’s just good to get a different view and search engines refine information so we can get to the answers quicker and easier and make a more informed decision."

Rachel Lawes, Futurologist and specialist in human communication advises: "Women shouldn’t view the web as competition; after all we use the Internet too in every part of our lives, just in different ways and at different times.

"So what if your man hits the net before you hit the snooze button, at least it gets it out of the way so he can focus on you for the rest of the day. If it looks like he’s spending too much time on the net then surf the web together. If he’s shopping online he’ll value your opinion as much as, if not more, than an expert or other consumers on the web."

The research from Bing, the search engine from Microsoft, makes decision-making easier for everyone by understanding the different ways in which UK consumers search online. It organises results in a concise, user-friendly way, diminishing information overload and Internet clutter.
