The age of chivalry could be over as new research reveals over half of today’s men don’t think they should pay for a first date.

Commissioned to mark the DVD and Blu-ray release of Date Night, the study revealed that 57% of men believe they shouldn’t have to pay for a first date, whilst a shocking 14% admitted they have never actually paid when out with a woman.

One in ten men stated they wouldn’t pay more than £20 to wine and dine a woman on their first date.

Looking good also didn’t rate highly on men’s priorities when dating, with a third of respondents claiming they don’t spend a penny on grooming products or a new outfit prior to a date.  A further 15% admitted they spend under 10 minutes getting ready for the big night.

Women are still eager to find themselves a Prince Charming with 86% believing a man should hold the door open for them and a quarter stating that paying on dates should be the man’s job.

Women were also happy to invest more in their date night, with 40% of those surveyed claiming they spent up to £50 getting ready for their night out and the average British women taking 55 minutes to make themselves look fabulous.

Despite men’s attitudes to dating, 60% of women surveyed claimed their partner was chivalrous and a quarter stated they took them out at least once a week.

Date Night stars comedy heavyweights Tina Fey (30 Rock, Baby Mama) and Steve Carell (The 40 year Old Virgin, Anchorman) as married couple Claire and Phil Foster who’s attempt at a glamourous and romantic evening unexpectedly turns into something more thrilling and dangerous!

The film is being released on the 13th September by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
