New Year Pushes Cheating Levels Even Higher

FemaleFirst reported that Monday 7th January, also known as Black Monday, is supposedly the most adulterous day of the year and it seems like that notion has been confirmed.

Married dating site illicitencounter.com finally hit its 750,000 member’s milestone this week and suspects it is due to the New Year blues.

Normally, the New Year will bring a sense of a new start, but for those unhappy in their marriage they seem to be choosing an alternative path.

Instead of admitting their relationship has come to an end and ringing in the divorce lawyers, many unhappy spouses are choosing to find a further partner to begin an affair.

IllicitEncounters believe that the increase in signups come from the inevitable stress the New Year can bring.

Financial worries, weight gain, over-spending and returning have been named as the causes but does this really drive someone to cheating?

IllicitEncounters Spokesperson Mike Taylor said, “The New Year is a time when people are making life changing decisions so an increase in sign-ups at the beginning of the year is no surprise to us. The amount of new members suggests that the economic climate is continuing to take its toll on relationships.”

But Richard Smith, researcher at NotAtWork.co.uk, says that affairs can not only harm your marriage, but also other aspects of your life, such as work.

He said, “This is also a time when people are most likely to start a work-place romance, however I would have to advise them to think twice as a whopping 80% of employers have admitted that they would hesitate to promote a member of staff who had had an interoffice relationship.”

Mike believes that people are choosing to cheat as it is more financially viable at this time of year, as well as choosing online dating as you’re less likely to impact other areas of your life.

He says, “We have seen the married dating industry grow experientially over the last 9 years with now nearly 6 per cent of the married population signing up to look for an affair online with someone in the same situation, rather than risking a tryst with a co-worker or their neighbour.”
