Music Can Get You In The Mood

Music Can Get You In The Mood

Many might consider it cheesy to stream Marvin Gaye through the speakers when trying to impress a potential partner but new research from Spotify shows it’s a sure fire way to inject passion.

The Science behind the Song study was conducted by neuroscientist Dr Daniel Müllensiefen, from the prestigious Goldsmiths, London University, shows that music turns us on just as much as what our partner feels and smells like.

Surprisingly, 40 per cent of people said that listening to music is more arousing than touch during sex. Not so surprisingly, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack was named the best for the bedroom.

Marvin Gaye won out when it came to ‘getting in the mood’; his songs Sexual Healing and Let’s Get It On took first and second place.

Dr Müllensiefen, said, “This new research reveals that listening to music is now considered just as important in the bedroom as other more animalistic sensations such as sounds, touch and smells, demonstrating that the connection between intimacy with a partner and music is as strong as ever.”

The survey also showed that people were ready to change their taste in music when it came to seducing a partner.

Men are more likely to bend their tastes to seduce a woman, with those who like genres such a heavy metal even tending to go towards more romantic songs.

If you need a bit of inspiration for your playlist then fear not! A third of people said that they can think of a second that they would describe as better than sex.

Queen beat all other bands to the post with four of their hits making the top 20, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, I Want To Break Free and Who Wants To Live Forever.

Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon also featured highly in the list as well as the classic Robbie Williams song Angels.

Dr Müllensiefen said, “The majority of the songs selected in this category possess similar epic qualities suggesting a greater emotional impact on the listener.  The songs are typically longer in length with dramatic musicality.”

The best traits for songs to inspire romantic encounters were found to be tender, cheerful, low-key and happy.
