Since the 50s, British women have fought for equal pay and respect in the workplace. Even though there has been great advances in pay for women and in female independence, it seems that there remains a social expectation for men to be earning more - and this pressure is in fact coming from women.

Tulisa disagrees: “If I found someone who’s a good guy that I get along with, I don’t care what he does, and that goes for anything.

“I don’t care if he works in McDonald’s. The one is the one," she added.

Nikki Howarth a member from SeekingArrangement.com said: “Powerful, successful men are confident and ultimately very sexy and these are the men I’m drawn to.

"You need only look at best-selling novel ’50 Shades of Grey’ to see that men like dominating entrepreneur Christian, are a huge fantasy for women. A successful man knows what he wants, which is a great way to get a woman going – plus he has enough cash to treat a lady too!”

Brandon Wade, founder of SeekingArrangement.com said: “The results show that although times may have changed, women still love to be doted on.

"Women want to be treasured and to feel secure - a powerful, high earning man can deliver on all accounts. The site’s success is based on this traditional romantic ideal remaining as present as ever, with women still looking for men who can heavily provide for them.

"Women often fantasise about playing the housewife and yearn for the ‘ideal’ family, which has the expectation of the husband being the main provider.

"It’s been drilled into little girls from a young age: when playing ‘house’, despite 60 years passing, they still adopt the role of cooking and looking after the children whilst the ‘husband’ brings home the bacon. As women grow up it’s not surprising they yearn for this as a reality," Brandon added.
