Waking up next to someone- You may have to get up extremely early but at least when your alarm goes off and you have five minutes to spare- you can snuggle up to them for those precious few moments until your snooze button calls.

You get to kiss someone goodbye- You may resent the fact that work drives you apart for 8 hours (minimum)- but a goodbye kiss in the morning leaves you with a little spring in your step. Despite having to endure the daily grind- you still have this person to be affectionate with before starting your day.

Texts- If you need a little boost, you can text your loved one to have a moan or talk about what you will be getting up to together once you are released from your 9-5 prison. It gets you though.

Emails- If you come across a particularly funny anecdote or picture on Facebook or email- you can forward it on to cheer them up if they are feeling as desperately unhappy as you in that moment. And if they do the same for you- it gives you that perk you need to get through the afternoon.

Desk picture- If your desk is like a one straight out of the movies- you are likely to have a plant and a picture of your loved one (if not- your phone will do). When times get tough it is a constant reminder of why you do all of this every day- so you can live with each other and enjoy eating and doing stuff together.

The call at lunch time- If you are lucky enough to have lunch hours that collide, you can call each other for a quick chat- usually in code or if you are able to leave the office- you don't hold back. Their voice is like the light at the end of the tunnel.

A pop to the shops- If you are able to leave the office on your break- popping to the shops to pick up something for the evening can help to reduce the sadness. Whether it's something for your evening meal or a little treat for your partner- it is a positive purchase that marks the end of work and the beginning of your night together.

The promise of home- Even though you may be desk bound for a very long time- you are safe in the knowledge that you have your partner waiting for you at home. You may not have a spectacular evening planned but at least you have some time to spend in each other's company that's free of rules and expectations.
