Will You Get Less Sex During The World Cup?

More than 11 million women will be a World Cup widow this summer - as their blokes retire to the sofa with World Cup fever.

Research revealed 47 per cent of the nation's wives and girlfriends are counting down the hours until the tournament kicks off knowing they will have to fend for themselves, receive little attention from their partners and be left to carry out all the household chores.

One in five women said they will not watch one minute of the competition while a quarter said they were expecting to fall out with their other half over the amount of football he will watch.

Nearly half admit they will have to sacrifice watching their favourite soaps, while 45 per cent realise they won't talk to each other as much as their bloke's interest is firmly on the football.

One in six women will receive fewer kisses and cuddles and one in twelve will get less sex.

A spokesman for Indesit, one of Europe's biggest makers of home appliances which polled 4,000 women, said: ''The World Cup is going to be extremely hard to ignore in the coming weeks and the whole nation is going to be talking about it and getting caught up in the excitement.

"But many women are not big football fans at the best of times so 64 games squeezed in to four weeks is really going to test even the most patient wives and girlfriends.

"A large number of wives and girlfriends will be left to cook dinner, look after the kids, sort the family's finances and keep the family unit running smoothly.

"So you can understand why so many wives and girlfriends are looking forward to it all being over so they get more help around the house and so their lives return to normality.''

The nationwide survey was carried out among wives and girlfriends aged between 18 and 65.
