The study by the university showed that there was a direct link between men who have high powered jobs having a lower testosterone count, meaning they had lower sex drive.

Despite having the luxury of being married to a high earning partner, some women are choosing to cheat in order to benefit from a better sex life.

Extra martial affairs dating site AshleyMadison.com polled their female members who are married to some of the country’s highest earners and found that many of them are willing to cheat if there partner cannot perform.

Twenty seven per cent of women said the reason they were having an affair was due to their husband being able to achieve or sustain an erection.

Published author, infidelity expert and CEO of extra marital dating website AshleyMadison.com, Noel Biderman, said, “Our female members admit that they often pursue affairs because of their spouse’s diminished sex drive, and bouts of impotency; however, they do not want to end their life of luxury and so take measures to avoid divorce.

“Decelerating sexual attraction between couples is a reality for millions, and as a consequence, many males suffer from ‘impotence attraction’, but only in relation to their spouse. One cannot help but wonder if the combination of these factors leads to these men having affairs of their own.”

There were other reasons for women choosing to cheat on their high powered husbands, with 39 per cent of women saying it was the loneliness that have driven them to it.

A further 23 per cent said it was because their husband has little or no sex drive due to being exhausted from a long day at work.
