They began dating after and got engaged in December 2008. In 1999, the couple appeared in Cruel Intentions together, on which he commented; ‘It was great. I'm the luckiest guy in the world. The got married on 5th June 1999 in a modest ceremony at Old Wide Awake Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina- at the time Witherspoon was six months pregnant.
ON 9th September 199, Witherspoon gave birth to Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, named after the actress Ava Gardner.
They had a son, Deacon Reese Phillip on the 23rd October 2003, name after Phillippe’s ancestor Deacon Phillippe who was a baseball player. When he was asked about him family, he said; "It just makes so many other things insignificant. It is the most incredible thing that has happened to me, and I feel so lucky to have found the person I want to be with, and to be prepared and enthusiastic. Home life's great, man. The kids are great, happy and healthy. I've reached this sort of wonderful precipice. In 2006, the pair announced that they were separating. Witherspoon cited irreconcilable differences after she filed for divorce. Everything was all wrapped up by 5th October 2007 and they now share custody of their two children. Phillippe then began to date Australian actress Abbie Cornish in 2007 after they co-starred in Stop-Loss together, however they split in 2010.
He then dated model and actress Alexis Knapp in 2010- but they only lasted a few months and split in the September of the same year.
He also dated actress Amanda Seyfried in October 2012 to May 2011.
After they broke up- Knapp found out that she was pregnant and gave birth to a daughter; Kailano Merizalde on 1st July 2011 and Phillippe was present at the hospital.
