Good manners beat good looks and intelligence as the most important quality women look for in a man according to a new survey.
The poll revealed that when it comes to picking a male partner, women look for good manners above all else. The intriguing findings saw 63% of UK women citing manners as the most important factor in their choice of a male partner, far exceeding good looks (5%), or intelligence (29%).
Eight in ten of those questioned in the survey commissioned by Debretts believe that men need help with their manners, and 87% rejected the statement that having good manners is old-fashioned.
The survey also revealed that 70% think mens manners are getting worse with half of women claim to have experienced bad manners recently.
Jo Bryant, Editor of Manners for Men, comments: Debretts knows that manners are still relevant, but the survey findings surprised us by showing just how important manners are in Britain today. Men need guidance Debretts Manners for Men can help them improve their manners and succeed in the tricky business of modern chivalry.
Debretts has released the survey findings to coincide with the recent launch of Manners for Men. The new book seeks to provide a new code of male manners, providing a timely guide to answer the question of what women REALLY want.
