Match Dating Championships 2012

Different cultures have different traditions, and the same goes for dating. Match took six countries, UK, USA, Australia, Japan, France and Canada and pitched them against each other to discover which countries dating traits win out.

Interestingly, the Brits had more in common with USA and Canada than that of its neighbour, France, who had more in common with Japan.

One of the most awkward date moments has to be who pays for the bill. The UK were the fairest of the countries as 52 per cent of women said that they would pick up the bill on alternate dates.

Japanese ladies are most likely to pick up the bill, with 16 per cent saying they did it all the time, compared to France, Australia, US and UK ladies who were at 4 per cent.

French women were the least likely to pick up the bill with 27 per cent saying that they would never pay.

French singles prefer to keep their dating life private with 35 per cent saying they don’t kiss and tell after a date. The US preferred to bare it all with a massive 92 per cent saying that they do reveal details of their dates to friends.

Although 88 per cent of Brits say that they do kiss and tell, it takes them a little longer to get to the kissing part. Forty five per cent of Brits wait until the second date for the kiss, whereas the Aussies are more willing to get straight in with 39 per cent of them kissing on the first date.

Those in the US are date crazy, as 76 per cent reported going on two or more dates in the last year. Australians and Japanese residents came in last with 47 per cent, proving they prefer quality of quantity.

Although they are more hesitant daters, the Japanese are the first to jump to moving in together with 59 per cent of them saying that moving in with someone in under a year is acceptable.

They were also the top believers in love at first sight. Eighty two per cent of them believed in the phenomenon, compared to the more reserved Brits, who only had 59 per cent of people believe.

Now for the big question on everyone’s lips: who was voted to have the hottest singles? Unfortunately it wasn’t the UK; the prize went to Southern Europe who was voted to have the hottest singles in the world.

Let’s hope were faire a little better in the Olympics!

Match understands that everyone likes to search for a partner in different ways which is why match has two sites in the UK; Match.com and MatchAffinity.com.

On match.com you can search for your matches yourself, whilst matchaffinity.com suggests compatible matches based on the results of your in-depth affinity questionnaire.
