If you are in a relationship- some of these might sound familiar. It can be hard enough managing your own finances- however even harder when someone else's money is in the mix. We take a look at the biggest financial regrets of couples as we head towards the closing of the year, according to Standard Life.

Not budgeting

Not budgeting

Not saving enough money- You may have been able to put something away into your joint savings but at the end of 12 months, you wonder if you could have made a bigger effort to cut back and squirrel more away.

Not saving any money at all- You might have lived hand to mouth for the entire year and spent everything you earned. If one of you lost your job, got reduced hours or your wages just about cover your bills- spare money is something you just don't have.

Not budgeting- If you spend as you see and don't set yourself targets and budgets, your finances tend to be a bit all over the place, which inevitably results in you being in debt or your overdraft.

Not paying more into your pension- When you get your annual statement at the end of the year, you wish you had upped your pension instalment in January. You fear how you're going to cope when you both retire.

Spending too much money on eating out- Neither of you are good cooks and so resort to lots of take aways and meals out during the week, which of course eats into your food allowance and often sends you over budget.
