Their packing habits- You buy things months in advance, make lists, pack neatly and budget for your holiday attire. They- on the other hand- like to buy all their clothes the day before and stuff them in their case like they're walking out of your life after a big argument.

They find out you poop- If you've been hiding this basic bodily function from them in a bid to make them think you don't do it- there's no escaping it when you're sharing a hotel room. Even more so if you the local delicacy doesn't agree with you.

If you can stand to spend all your time with each other- It can go either way- you learn that they're the only person you can actually tolerate for extended periods. OR you establish that one of you needs a pool day while the other visits a town far, far away from the hotel.

How they cope on flights- If they tap their leg the whole way there like they're detoxing or if they're happy to entertain themselves for a few hours with no dramatic declarations of 'I'm bored!'

How adventurous they are- Are they a paragliding, banana boating, theme park kind of person or do they prefer to stay by the pool and read about other people doing those sorts of things?

How well they sleep in a strange bed- Do they snore? Or have restless nights if they're not at home and are grumpy during light hours or can they sleep anywhere?

How vain they are- If they spend more time taking snaps than being in the moment- you might feel like you come second best to their vanity. Or do they spend an age getting ready in the morning so that most of your day is wasted? In which case- why bother?

You're probably hoping that they're a bit more relaxed about their appearance and only take pics when you spot something together that you want in the album when you get back.

If the sex is any different- Whether they want to do it on every surface in every new place you find or if they stick to your usual routine because -there's a bed here too.

If they adopt an attitude of 'we're only here once'- They may be up for drinking during the day, trying out new food and drinks and doing things you would never get the chance to at home or they might just want to play it safe. If you're on the same page- you will probably have a great time- if not- you might as well have stayed at home.

How much they care about you- If they stick by you to make sure you don't get lost, take care of your important documents and have meeting places if you get separated- they're a keeper. If they have no respect for your safety, you may want to go home sooner than your tickets tell you to.

Whether this is the kind of holiday you always want together- You may decide that you'll forever holiday on beaches outside of the UK or you may hate being so far away from home and decide camping is more your thing. The first holiday is always the litmus test.
