Women want an extravagant evening with no expense spared, whereas men are happy to settle for a pizza on the couch.
Now, men have been found to leave women unimpressed after a first date after skimping and saving on the most important things.
Men have admitted that their perfect first date would cost just £30 and consist of watching a DVD on the sofa.
Women, however, expect men to spend at least £100 on the first date and expect to be wined and dined.
As if their opinions weren’t already polls apart, men admitted that they expected women to pay for half of the date, whereas women said that the man should pay entirely.
Two thirds of women said that they would offer to go halves out of politeness but would never expect a man to take them up on the offer.
George Charles of VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, who conducted the research, said, “This study brings forward some very interesting points on the difference between men and women and what they think a first date should cost, as well as how they would define what makes a perfect date in 2013.”
“We may be living in a time of economic struggles, but with 40% of men suggesting women should pay half the cost of a couple of pizzas and DVDs, one could perhaps question whether the tradition of male chivalry is dead!”
