Why do many first dates take place in a pub?

Different countries, different customs. In the USA, for example, the distances between blind date partners are often so big that it is in many cases the most practical solution to meet directly at home. However, in the south-european countries like Spain young singles mostly live with their parents until they have finished university or even until they marry - there it is obvious of course that one meets rather outwards in a public place. While 25% of the British singles declared that they met their blind date directly at home, over 57 % arranged the first date in the pub - thus the results of the survey.

Why is having a blind date in your home potentially irresponsible as many Dutch women do for instance?

Particularly for a woman it can become disagreeable at several levels to invite an unknown man for a private visit at her home, above all when she does not like him. If they sit in the pub, she can say goodbye and go away. But if he is sitting on her couch… Then, moreover, visiting her at home, he knows already her address and now maybe she has a serious problem with stalking. A woman should give away her personal data like address and surname not too early. First of all you should wait whether you want to meet the blind date once again!

Why do British females prefer to date in the pub?

As the results of the survey show, British females are in a good mix of healthy scepticism and distinctive culture when they go out to meet someone they don't know so far. What the café or bistro is for the French, that is the pub for the Brits.

How can a woman convey that she is not enjoying a date with a man in a pub?

In the pub it is much easier and much more elegant for a woman to finish a date she doesn't like. Then she could simply say, "Today, unfortunately, my baby sitter does not have pretty long time" - or another relative needs her help and so on. In many cases she will have solved her problem with this simple solution :-)

Why are sporting dates considered more acceptable in Denmark, France and Sweeden?

Sportive activities outdoors like cross-country skiing are a very popular pastime in the northern countries and, therefore, the singles meet with pleasure - also their date - for this activity. The French are a very many-sided nation with the blind date. Here besides sportive activities one also meets the blind date to a cultural event.

Why are British women and men so against sport themed dates?

British singles are the only group where 0% of the singles meets the blind date for a sport activity. To explain or interpret the survey, we go back in parts on the etiquette and the old School manner of Gentleman and Lady. On the other hand it certainly also has to do with the fact that there is not a widespread mass sport like Nordic Walking or cross-country skiing in Britain, which would be perfect to become acquainted with an unknown person.
