Women race to Facebook once it's certain!

Women race to Facebook once it's certain!

New research found that women take twice as long to make relationships official than men, we talk to George Charles from VoucherCodesPro.com about the gender difference when it comes to defining your new romance.

Why is there a gender split between men and women when it comes to making a relationship official?

Men and women think differently about most things, so it’s not unusual to see this reflected in how long it takes to make a relationship official. Women take so much into consideration when considering if someone is relationship material or not, whilst Men think a lot simpler and make a decision much sooner.

Why then are women quicker at changing their status on Facebook than men?

Our recent study shows that the majority, 52%, of women updated their relationship status on social media channels either within 24 hours or within one week. Women want to tell the world straight away that they’re in a relationship for a potential number of reasons. They may want to show off to their friends that they’re in a relationship and receive comments and ‘likes’ congratulating them. They may also want to let other women know that their partner is off the market!

Women appear to want to tell the world about their relationship, so why is this?

Whilst we can’t be sure, it may be a desire to share their happiness with the world. Many people like to tell the world about how happy they are and how amazing their relationship is, even if they don’t get any comments or ‘likes’. Just knowing it’s out there for people to see and know may make them feel good.

What are the repercussions of posting your status change on Facebook too early?

Whilst there may be no repercussions, you could risk ‘jumping the gun’ and scaring a new partner if you shout it from the rooftops too soon. Your new partner may also not turn out to be the person you thought you were entering a relationship with, and if it breaks down soon after starting, people may have an influx of questions if their relationship status soon turns back to ‘single’!

Why are men much more relaxed about making it official when it comes to Facebook?

Men feel that changing their online status too early tells the world they’re off the market, something they’re not ready to do until they’re sure the relationship is going somewhere. Particularly when men enter relationships much quicker than women – 81% of men wait three dates, whilst 68% of women prefer to wait six dates. They’ve made the decision to enter a relationship with their partner, and don’t necessarily feel the need to shout it from the rooftops, with 74% of men stating they will wait two weeks or more, or until their partner asks them to update it.
