It seems that last year was been pretty much pwned by Ryan Gosling. After a slew of top notch films including Steve Carell comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. (released on Blu-ray and DVD on 30th January), every woman wants to bed him and we want to be him*. So at this time of New Year’s Resolutions, ours is quite simple: Be More Like Ryan Gosling.

- Learn how to play an instrument

We all know playing an instrument automatically makes you cooler. Not only does Gosling play the guitar, he also plays the piano and is the lead singer of two man band Dead Man’s Bones.

Despite not being familiar with all the instruments on the debut album, Gosling and band mate Zach Shield insisted on playing every instrument on the record.

Does it get much cooler than that!? We recommend listening to one of their standout tracks ‘My Body’s a Zombie for you’.

- Keep yourself well groomed

Whilst not all of us can afford designer clothing, there’s no excuse for poor fashion sense. Keep yourself in the loop by following the latest fashion blogs online. Invest in a well-reviewed aftershave and purchase at least one suit that actually fits you.

Ordering a suit online is a massive no go so head into town and get sized up. If you usually get your hair cut at the barbers, pay a trip to a salon / hairdressers for a far superior cut.

- Learn to Speak another Language

Most people would be proud to say they are familiar with a foreign language. Fitting with Ryan’s swarve and sophisticated image, he can also speak fluent French. 

- Don’t be predictable

Gosling has to be one of the most versatile actors around. He’s played the role of a junkie school teacher, a politician, a loved up teenager, a womaniser and a laconic stunt driver.  The point being?

Expose yourself to new opportunities and say yes more often. The more interesting you become, the higher you rank on the cool scale. Take up a new hobby. Another hobby of Gosling’s?  He runs his own Moroccan Restaurant in LA...

- Be a real hero

Ironically, a standout track from soundtrack to Gosling’s movie Drive is titled ‘A Real Hero’. Ryan Gosling was caught on camera in New York breaking up a fight between two men over artwork.

- Work on your physique

That particular scene in Crazy, Stupid, Love. where Emma Stone claims a topless Ryan Gosling looks photoshopped... We can assure you, it’s not; it’s hours and hours of hard work put in at the gym.

Ryan was made to follow an intensive programme for Crazy, Stupid, Love.

- Show your softer side

Ryan’s longest relationship stands at 11 years. Who’s the lucky one? Well, he’s called George... And he’s a dog.

Gosling’s long-lasting love of his pooch shows kindness, loyalty and commitment, but this display of gentility doesn’t come without cool - why yes, that is a Mohawk on George’s back...

- Why so serious!?

Ryan Gosling starred in the comical ‘Drunk History Christmas’ alongside Eva Mendes and Jim Carrey. If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch.

Whilst Gosling might have looks and a sense of humour going for him, we’re not all blessed as such. Regardless, don’t treat yourself seriously and keep working on that sense of humour! Apparently it’s a must criterion for women...

- Give yourself a tattoo

Okay... this final one might be a joke, but Ryan Gosling did buy himself a tattoo kit and attempt to tattoo a monster’s hand on his arm.

It ended up looking like a cactus, but you can’t knock the man for effort, and sticking a needle in your own arm - repeatedly - surely wins him some ‘hard’ points.
