Would you kiss someone on a first date?

Datingpriceguide.co.uk found that 75% of men wouldn’t kiss you on a first date! Maybe a peck on the check but not a full on snog!

Eight out of ten women would turn a partner down if they went in for a kiss. Imagine the embarrassment- he leans in -you turn your cheek- AWKWARD! So many opt to leave it until a subsequent date to pucker up.

Some couples, even in long term relationships are not the biggest fans of 'PDAs' or personal displays of affection, ruling kissing out as a big no no even far down the line. Can you really gauge if your date is one of these people after only a few hours of being in their company? Knowing these stats- would he really want to risk being cheeked now? Many men play it safe for that reason- the crippling fear of rejection.

Some women don’t like to kiss a person that they have just met- which is understandable- after two hours of chatting are you really ready to get lip locked with a guy if the date was only so so?

A sad 5% have been out with men whom they didn’t want to kiss because of breath issues or body odour. Come on guys! This is a date; it goes without saying that preparation should include brushing your teeth and washing!

The average online dater has been on 9 dates, with 15% being stood up by their prospective company for the evening. One in twenty have even had the guts to leave their date after telling him that they were going to the bathroom. So a kiss was the least of their worries!

A female respondent commented “I have left a date at the table after telling him I was going to the loo, it was an awful date and I’m sure he was as relived as I was”

Dates can go swimmingly or they can go horribly wrong and the most common reasons for not taking a shine to your potential love interest other than the thought of kissing them are: awkward silences, extreme nervousness and either being messy with your food or getting too drunk.

Silences are a normal part of conversation and can be welcome sometimes, however not for prolonged periods- the pressure of thinking of something interesting to talk about makes you doubt if you were every interesting at all!

It is natural to have a few nerves beforehand for a first date, but physically shaking or gagging is taking it a bit too far! And if this extends to knocking things off the table it can make for an even worse time of things.

Picking something that is messy like spaghetti is not a great option if you want to stay clean and splatter free. Looking like a toddler at its high chair is never a good look for a grown woman.

Finally getting plastered tells the guy that you need liquor in order to get though any difficult situation- so doesn’t bode well for date two.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it seems women are more in control when deciding the outcome of a date. If they want to get a guy to kiss you, chances are he will respond but if not then you might have to wait for a second date to come around before you get tongue tied!
