Could this be you this summer?

Could this be you this summer?

"Summer romances end for all kinds of reasons. (…) They are shooting stars, a spectacular moment of light in the heavens, a fleeting glimpse of eternity. And in a flash, they're gone," wrote acclaimed novelist Nicholas Sparks.

With that in mind Icelolly decided to see whether holiday romances are as Sparks describes or if they are starting a story of their very own.

It was found that 58% of couples who have been together for at least 5 years met while on holiday, suggesting that the literary romantic might be wrong.

On holiday Brits tend to the most passionate they are all year and so this pays off big time when they meet a potential date. 46% even share their first kiss while on holiday.

This iconic movie moment- the first kiss- is hosted at many a location while abroad, so we found the most popular spots for lip locking holiday makers.

Takeaway- Not the most romantic of locations but at least if you work up a hunger or thirst while kissing then you are in the right place!

The beach- The classic film shot- a couple in an embrace on the beach-think Safe Haven or The Last Song- a ‘Sparksian’ ending!

Hotel pool- A little reminiscent of Wild Things if you get too hot and heavy but still a very sexy smooch!

A&E- Not exactly what you have in mind for a holiday romance location but nothing bonds two people together like a minor injury- it happens on Grey’s Anatomy every week!

The sea- Like any perfume advert that you see on TV right now- people rolling around in the shallow water- probably smelling more like seaweed than au de perfume- but it looks and probably feels good.

Tattoo studio- Everyone has a passion and if this is yours share a passionate moment at the same time- it might take your mind of that huge needle piercing your skin!

Nightclub- With a few drinks, some sexy moves and a new found confidence you are bound to find someone to brush up against in there!

Pedalo- Just you and him and the ocean. There is not a lot to do other than paddle talk and kiss- a great way to break the ice!

Airport- With all the anticipation of a new location and new people can make you want to start your holiday early or get in a lasting memory before you make your way home!

Famous landmarks- It’s cliché but hey if you are never going back there again- you might as well make the most of a quick kiss by the Eifel Tower or your landmark of choice!

Relationship expert James Preece, known as The Dating Guru, said: "Summer holidays make everyone feel more optimistic, happier and relaxed. When you combine this with beautiful settings it sets the perfect mood for romance. The sun itself can make us feel happier and more open to relationships as it helps the body produce endorphins - the 'feel good' chemicals. It's much easier to keep a relationship going nowadays, thanks to Facebook, Skype and text messages.  As distance is no longer a barrier that keeps new couples apart, there is more chance of a summer romance lasting."
