If you're one of the many couples who love Christmas, you might find some of the following all too familiar as we celebrate Christmas Eve.

Christmas on Female First

Christmas on Female First

Panic- This is the last opportunity to make sure you have everything you need so you go through the Christmas list with each other to determine if a last minute rush to the shops is required.

Make sure the house is tidy- So Santa has a clear path to the tree to deposit your presents and so your guests can reach the table for their dinner.

Put out a something to eat and drink for Santa- It differs for every couple- but there's generally a tipple, a cookie or piece of cake and of course a carrot for Rudolph- never one for the rest of the reindeer- they have to go hungry.

Have an early evening meal- You know all you're going to be doing tomorrow is eating- so something light is always on the cards so you don't spoil your appetite for the one and only time of year you get your five-a-day.

Put out all the presents under the tree for you both- Ones you've bought for each other and ones that have been delivered to you in advance to help Santa out.

Put the stockings by the fireplace- Because this is where they're always located on cards and Christmassy scenes- despite the likelihood that all your chocolate will melt from the heat.

Watch something appropriate on the TV- To get you both in the mood- usually whatever's on- Home Alone, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol or some such festive offering.

Open one present under the tree- To keep all that excitement at bay- just something small- but it satisfies your need to rip the paper off everything south of the pine needles.

Get an early night- It's always an early start on Christmas Day so it's important to be well rested for present opening, potato roasting and Brussel sprout sniffing.

Get no sleep- It's not every day you get lots of presents, eat naughty food and see the whole family for cracker pulling and games. There's too much to look forward to for sleep!
