If you want to make the most of the month of December- here are some suggestions (in no particular order) for how you can spend your time with your lover.

Christmas on Female First

Theatre- Book in at your local theatre for the inevitable Christmas panto- you may both be adults now, but nothing says ‘curtain raiser to Christmas’ like singing a festive tune with hundreds of other people.

Make gingerbread- It’s up to you if you choose biscuits or get ambitious and make a house- either way you can get inventive with icing and enjoy some banter while you bake.

Mince pies- Set aside some time to appreciate the marvel that is a mince pie, with a warmed mulled wine by the fire. It’s a simple yet necessary pleasure at this time of year.

Christmas movie night- Make sure at least one night in December is set aside for a movie fest- grab the golden oldies like Scrooged, Home Alone and It’s a Wonderful Life to get you in the mood.

Invest in some Christmas pjs- Pop out and find the craziest and most comfortable pjs you can lay your hands on, so you can indulge a little more without having to worry about your muffin top showing!

Buy some festive bedding- Even if you’re working up till the last minute- when your bedroom is ready for the man in red- it reminds you that you haven’t many sleeps left until you get a proper rest.

Put up your tree- Unless you couldn’t wait- you will need to allocate some time to put up the tree in December. If you do it early on- you still have time to get the last-minute things that broke or looked a little tired last year.

Visit the Christmas markets- Even if it’s so busy you can’t see any of the stalls- at least you can grab a hot chocolate and soak up the atmosphere of this magical time in the calendar.

Go and see the Coca Cola Truck in the flesh- If you sing along to the advents and use that as your marker for Christmas to begin- isn’t it about time you went to see it for real? Well- it’s doing the rounds until the 17th December so there’s still loads of time to find a location near you.

Carol singing- You can watch, or you can join in- whatever you are most comfortable with- but nothing says Christmas like the sound of singing in the outdoors. And if you’re really lucky- in the snow!

Christmas shopping- If you want to avoid the crowds at the weekends- you could do a little spot of shopping after work to get inspiration for each other or to buy things for your friends and family.

Meet up with your mutual friends- If that’s at your place, at their place or somewhere out and about- make sure that you make time to wish your makes a cracking Christmas.

Donate something to a food bank- If you’re lucky enough to have food in abundance at this time of year- spare a thought for those who will struggle on this day of excess. Next time you go food shopping- gather some things together and take it to your local bank. Everyone deserves a hearty meal on Christmas Day.

Go and see a Christmas light switch on- There’s bound to be a Christmas light event in your local town or city- so find out when it is, wrap up warm and enjoy all that it has to offer.

Make a Christmas playlist- You are bound to need to background music on Christmas day while you’re tucking in, so make sure that all your favourites are on there, so you can sing along while you’re scoffing.

Write your Christmas cards- Best to do this early on so they get to where they need to be on time. It doesn’t have to be a chore- put on your playlist, throw on a christmas movie and get your best pens out!

Wrap your gifts-Again, this gets a lot of bad press- but if you have the right backdrop- the time will fly by!

Coffee shop- All coffee shops have something Christmas themed at this time of year- so instead of your usual brew at home- why not go to your local coffee place and treat yourselves to a festive drink and snack?

Buy a Christmas jumper- Everyone needs one- whether it’s for Christmas day, the last day to work or just to put you in the mood while you’re getting everything ready- so go barmy, go baggy and go bight!

Plan out your Christmas viewing- Yes, it’s that time of year when the TV guide gets a lot of scrutiny. Bring out the highlighter and do the arguing now so you don’t have a battle over the remote on the day.

Meet up with family- If you’re not spending Christmas day with your folks- plan in some with with them before so you can swap presents- enjoy some festive food and wish each other well.

Get the necessaries ready for Santa- The carrots of Rudolph, the mince pies and the nip of something alcoholic- check that you have it all in in readiness for his arrival.

Buy a cheeky gift for you both- A new toy, a sexy festive outfit or game then lock the doors, turn off the TV and take your night upstairs.

Get an early night- With every other day taken up with something- it’s important to make time for your relationship. So, clear your calendar for at least once night when you can sneak up to bed and spend some time beneath your Christmassy sheets!

So, there we have it- you can pick and choose, do them all, or come up with your own versions- whatever you decide, have a very happy Christmas.
