If you need tips- look no further!

Have you ever uttered the words- ‘you are more trouble that you’re worth’ to your partner? Well you would not be far wrong. Totallymoney.com (take the quiz below!) has found that 45% of us believe that we would be richer of we were single, despite halving costs on such as rent and bills when in a relationship.

52% of men think that they would be better off as bachelors due to the money they spend on their partner. So we ask the question- do men really still spend more on women than women spend on men, playing up to every evolutionary stereotype going? Well that depends on age- men aged from 24 right though to 44 believe that they would be wealthier if they were on their own. So it would seem that men start buying for their women fairly soon into the relationship if you believe what they say, leaving their teens and retirement free of added lady costs.

You could argue that being in a relationship encourages more activity based things- meals out, cinema trips, romantic weekends away, and gifts on special occasions. However there is nothing to say that singletons don’t do all of these things but with and for their mates. If you are in a relationship and looking for some ways to cut costs because the thought of losing your fella over a few quid is too much to bear- then read on!

Times are tough, especially when there are two of you to think about so OnePoll.com have come up with some ingenious ways to keep those costs down when you are cohabiting!

Buying supermarket own brands-We have to adjust our taste buds for some horrendous diets foods, it's about time that the men in our lives settled for less branded stuff- you might be pleasantly surprised- unlike us with our diet crap!

Shopping around for best deals on insurance and utilities- It might sound like the dullest weekend or weeknight activity to do together but you will be laughing all the way to the bank when your bills come in!

Having leftovers for lunch- As a couple you always make too much food so instead of throwing it away- save some for the next day to out in each of your packed lunches!

Making and sticking to shopping lists- If you turn up at the supermarket with an empty tummy and no list you will end up giving into impulse buys! Couple’s meals for two and extra portions of things you don’t really need!

Unplugging all appliances/ electrical goods when not in use- Leaving your DVD and TV on standby is using up energy, so unplug them and watch the money stack up in your joint account!

Walking or cycling places rather than driving- That trip to the corner shop or the gym in your car- walk there instead! It’s good for your body and your purse/wallet!

Driving more slowly to preserve fuel- Set off early so you don't have to rush everywhere or if you are a one for those people that has to get everywhere in a hurry- slow down- your bank balance with thank you!

Flushing the loo less- For a number 1- not flushing for number two is just gross!

Selling on eBay during free listing weekends- You all shave stuff that you have duplicated when you moved in together so get it sold and get some cash back!

Buying second hand goods- EBay, car boot sales and charity shops can be your best friend- just wash them through or clean when you get them back home and you soon forget that it belonged to someone else. Plus you can do your bit for charity!

Ordering tap water when out for drinks/meal- Bottled water is extortionate. If you ask specifically for tap water, it's free and better for the environment!

Leaving the oven door open after use- If your house is chilly and your heating costs a fortune- leave your oven door open and let the warm air travel through to your living room for a toasty night on the couch together!

Only shopping in sales- Everything you see will eventually come down in price- so play the waiting game and save yourself the big bills!

Cutting your own hair- You don’t have to be trained to trim your fringe or take off those unwanted split ends!

Charging phone at work- If you sit at a desk, you will almost certainly have an empty plug near you so take advantage of your office perks!

Raiding the coppers jar- Putting all of you loose change in one place really does mount up and maybe you can afford a treat or put it in your joint savings for a rainy day!

Reusing tin foil or cling film- A simple rinse means that dinner from the night before can supply the cover for your lunch the next day!

Sharing bath water- If nothing else it is an excuse to have some intimate wet time together!

Keeping car empty to preserve fuel- If you fill your car with stuff for the 'what if?' scenario, try to reduce the amount as any extra weight will cost you money!

Reusing tea bags- There is a lot more than one use in a tea bag- so if you are making you both a brew- use one bag each time instead of two!

Haggling when possible- If you are at a market or a car boot sale, you can haggle for what you want- judge the situation appropriately!

Spraying with perfume testers instead of buying your own- You can get free samples in department stores and magazines, collect a few up and you will be surprised how far they go!

Exchanging unwanted gifts for vouchers- If you get a receipt at Christmas for something you already jointly own- take it back to the shop and get something you can use!

Grocery shopping after a big meal- You will not be tempted to stray from your list if you do this! Junk food is expensive and lasts no time at all- so resist your urges and think of the monetary benefits!

Freezing leftover wine in ice trays to add to dishes in the future- Old drink always get throw away- so freeze them and add them to a spaghetti bolognaise for a posher version of your usual evening meal together!
