Let's put aside the clichéd stuff the first dates in moves are made of. In reality, flowers and chocolates don't cut it when it comes to turn-ons. Being safe behind the wheel is apparently what guys and gals are looking for in a potential partner now, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). So what- there's really no chocolate?!

This is so bad!

This is so bad!

We take a look at the other things that make a woman go running for the hills on a first date.

Top 10 first date turn-offs

Rudeness- That whole 'I'm holier than thou' attitude just doesn't fly I'm afraid. If you think you're better than the waitress who serves us our food, the bartender who gives us drinks all night or the chef behind the scenes why don't you go and do their job for an hour and see if it expands you narrow mind?!

Bad personal hygiene- The bare minimum you should do for a first date is brush your teeth and wash. If you can't do that there is literally nothing else in the world that can compensate for your fear of soap.

No sense of humour- Humour is the best way to ease tension, break the ice and have fun with your date- if you can't have a giggle- you're a goner.

Being self-obsessed- There is a little thing called 'exchange of information'; you might recognise it from other walks of life. The conversation goes back and forth- you tell me something, I tell you something in return. If we aren't doing that and it's all about you, then you can go and wallow in your own self-pity when you go home alone- I guess you'd be good at that.

Road rage- Traffic jams happen, lights aren't always in your favour, and pedestrians can make sudden movements. Use the time in the car to talk to your date rather than rushing to where you're getting to, the opportunity to chat is right there- make the most of it.

Texting whilst driving- If you are willing to risk the life of your date and yourself, then you really don't care all that much about anything do you?

Talking on a mobile whilst driving- If you don't want to talk to the person sitting next to you- why agree to a date?!

Bad dress sense- People are supposed to dress their best and make real effort on a first date. If you don't take the time out to impress so early on- it gives the impression you won't go out of your way in any other area either. If you know what I mean.

Sweaty palms- Everyone gets nervous, but sweat should ideally be saved for the sex part, not the first handshake.

Dirty car- If your car is dirty, your date will assume your house and personal hygiene go hand in hand.
