Grand gestures are all very well, but the important bit is getting your Valentine’s message just right. We all know how putting pen to paper for Valentine’s cards can give you instant writer’s block, despite how wonderful you think your loved one is!

Valentine's Day on Female First

This year, take a tip from the experts to make sure you hit the right note. Mills and Boon certainly know a thing or two about romance and have put together their top tips for a Valentine message from the heart:

Use real events. Think of a recent favourite thing that you and your partner enjoyed together and refer to this in your message.

Remember why you love them. You may think your Valentine is drop-dead gorgeous, but how often do you actually tell them? Use your Valentine’s card to remind them why you think they’re fab.

Be yourself. Writing tone can be tricky, which is why it’s always best to sound like yourself …just dial up the romance a little. Get a laugh in there too and they will be sold!

Get writing. It goes without saying that a handwritten message is best – it’s so much more personal. And we’re not talking about smudged biro – invest in a lovely pen for your special words.

And if all else fails… Why not quote a favourite poem or song. Sometimes someone else had the perfect words all along – the art is in finding them.

This Valentine’s Day look no further than Mills and Boon for the perfect romance fix. The super-glam One Kiss Collection is packed with jet-set locations and gorgeous men!
